I herewith enclose you two (2) letters from the 3rd Auditor, with reference to the State Account. I ~~wrote~~ would have sent them to you long ago but I have been trying to get an agreement about our settlement which I have failed to do.

The ~~authority~~ abstracts made by the State are said to be so very imperfect that the accounts cannot be adjusted until new abstracts and proper classifications of the vouchers are rendered. I have seen the Auditor and this is insisted upon. If you will authorize me to employ a sufficient force in my office I will soon render the accounts as he wants them. This settlement progresses very slowly. I have a copy of the difference sheets on the pay rolls; it is full of errors of the most flagrant kind

The Auditor has agreed to take up that portion of the account presented by the pay rolls and settle
it; but you will see that he requires the new abstracts in this account. It will require a competent clerk but a short time to make out the required abstracts for this account. You will please return me the letters which I herewith enclose.
