Dear Sir,

Some time during the fall of 63 I wrote you a letter asking your influence in the case of Tho^s E. Coleman- a private of Co A 33^d Ky, who had been sentenced to be shot at Munfordville on the 4^th Sept 63. He was, however, indefinitely respited by the President who is in posession of all the facts of the case. As Coleman's health is being greatly impaired by confinement in a damp cell, I respectfully ask that you again call the attention of the President to the case, for I presume that in discharge of his very numerous duties, he has forgotten this case.

I certainly think it a case which deservedly merits an interposition of Executive Clemency -- otherwise I should not trouble myself with it
