To the Excelence of the governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your Petitioner Thomas Adkins wold Respectible represent to your Excelenc that at the present March Terme of the Whitley Circuit Court your petitioner was endited for Selling spiritus liquor with out being sworn as the law directs he says that he as soon as he found out that the had endited him that he pled gilty and the law and fact was submited to the court and that the court Rendered Judgment against him for ~~his~~ twenty dollars he states that he is a pore [orfen] boy and hired to labor and did what ever his employer set him ~~and~~ at and did not know that he was violating the law at the time of selling he states he never knew that they was a statute against selling with out being sworn he states that he had no notion of violating the law and as soon as he found it was Requird taken the oath he prays that your excelence Remit the fine and set a side the Judgment and for Proper Releaf

Gov. Bramlett Tho^s Adkins is a boy Fatherless has no education at all, he is a boy of good morals at the tirm he violated the law the public Books had not reached this county. and it was not known that it was necessary for the Clerk in a Grocery to take an oath he is very poor and I hope your Excellency will remit the fine
