Paducah Sept 24^th 1864

Dear Sir

John Wilhelm was Indited in the M^cCrackin Circuit Court about 1860 for Resenting an insult by nocking the party down he was held to bail in the sum of Three hundred Dollars ($300 ⁰⁰/₁₀₀) Our Court then Came on the Third Mondays of April and September the time of holding the Court was Changed to second mondays instead of the Third -- Wilhelm was absent from this County when the Case was Called in april 1863 there being no Courts held here until April 1863 Wilhelm Telegraphed on the third monday to know what day he should come to attend to his case but it had been called and Bond taken for forfeited in the second weeks business The Inditement was held bad by the Court and quashed but the Bond Remains against him
Wilhelm did not know of the change in the time of holding the Court or he would have been present he is a peasible quiet good man and he therefore asks that you Releive him from the payment of the Bond

Gov^r. Bramlette -- Mr Ratcliff his truly stated his case and as I have become familliar with it since I came into office I regard it was working a hardship on Wilhelm and cheerfully recommend the remission of the bond as an act of Justice in fact I see now no cause why payment should be exacted -- there can be no doubt of his intentions to have been present to his trial ^&^ except ^for^ the change in holding the courts mislead him he would have been on hand
