your petitioner Benton Gatewood would respectfully represent, that at the May term of the circuit court for Trimble county, he was fined the sum of Thirty Dollars for pitching a game of Dollars,

He says that he was not aware that he was subject to a fine for merely pitching as he did for a treat, it being merely for amusement as he believed,

He therefore prays your honor to remit said fine and as in duty bound will ever pray &C. &C,

Sir the within petitioner Bent Gatewood is a friend of Mine and I would like verry Much for you to lay his case to ^before^ the Governor Gatewood is a poor man and I would feel agreaved to see him put in Jail for so Small of fees Should you succed in having Said fine remitted and send me the papers I will send the fee Two dollar by Mail forthwith
