Dear Sir,

I lay before you a case in which Executive clemency is prayed — and you will see its merit by reading the letter of Mr Chambers to you & the indorsement of it by the Com^ths atty. Mr Dupuy —

Under the decisions of the Court of appeals no Successful defense could have been made to the Sci-fa —

I understood that veryreason has been used in other applications for remission of penalties but this is the first time I have ever applied for a remission of one
by letter or petition — Mr Gaslin who is the applicant for remission in this case is a Gentleman of integrity. and I most cheerfully indorse his application — and hope you will grant it —
