To His Excellency Thomas E. Bramlette Governor of the State of Kentucky:

The undersigned would respectfully represent that on the first day of May 1865 in the County of Jefferson and state of Kentucky. He became bound in a Bond to said Commonwealth for the appearance at the circuit Court thereafter of a young man by the name of Henry Smith. in the sum of Four hundred dollars:

Your petitioner states that soon after He thus became bound. young Smith volunteered and entered the service of the United States, as a Soldier in the army of the Government: and when his case was called at the next Term of the Jefferson Circuit Court: He was at that time in said service and out of the County of Jefferson: and your petitioner could not have him before the said Court, to answer; and the Bond for $400 was forfeited, as aforesaid.

Your Petitioner says that He is very poor and has a helpless and dependent family. and that it will ruin him and pauperise them to pay said debt. all he has would not pay it: his health is bad, and his family are sick:

The premises considered He prays your Excellency to remit to him the said sum of $400. He paying officers Costs & fees
