Your petioner Robert Ward would respectfully State, that on the first day of November 1862 he was convicted of the crime of Larceny in the Jefferson Circuit Court, and Sentenced to be imprisoned in the Penitentiary for five years at hard labor, and that soon after his conviction he was confined in Said Penitentiary and has remained there ever since. Your petitioner fother says that he was confined in the Jefferson County Jail for [ ] months, which together is more then three years. Imprisonment alreddy suffered for a Crime of which your petitioner Sollemly declares he never was guilty, but was convicted through the prejudicial influance from certain officials in the capasaty of watchman: But your petitioner respectfully submits that even if he had been guilty that the majesty of the law ~~has~~he would have been fully vindicated.

Your petitioner would fother state that he has conducted himself well from his boyhood up as also ever since his confinement in said Penitentiary, and that if it is true
that Law is not so much for vengence as it is to reform, then he thinks as before said that even if he had been guilty, that he has alreddy been ^punished^ anough;

Wherefore your petitioner respectfully Prays your Excellency to exercise your Executive Clemency and grant him a Pardon: Respectfully Submitted, Aug [ ] 1865

We the undersigned Citizens of Louisville would suggest that we believe the above is a case which deserves the interference of Your Executive Clemency, and we therefore pray that your Excellency will grant him his parden;
