To Thomas E. Bramlette Esqr Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Your petitioner William E Grider States that he was arrested for a breach of the peace and was tried before the County Judge of Russell County who empannelled a jury who fined him $25. this was assessed on the 17^th day of ~~July~~ June 1865. Now the facts are about these. Your Petitioner and one Anderson M. Holmes disagreed in regard to a fence between their farms and had some words relation thereto each one getting excited in which he did abuse Said Holms with his toung but never Struck or assaulted him for each one was on his own side of the fence. Your petitioner is of the opinion that he committed no breach of the peace because he did ^not^ strike any person and does not think that words will Constitute a breach of the peace Wherefore your pet. ~~asks~~ respectfully asks a remission of said fine & as in duty bound will ever. &^c

W^m E Grider States that he beleives that the Statements of the foregoing petition are true Sworn to & subscribed by W^m E Grider before me this 25th Septr 1865.

We the undersigned Citizens of Russell County join in the prayer of the foregoing petition and respectfully ask ~~thesaid~~ said fine be remitted.
