Sir,

I had the honor to be released from prison in July last by your special order on taking the oath of allegiance

I now apply to you for the pardon, required to reinvest with full rights of citizenship.

I am excluded from the amnesty only by the fact of having left a loyal state, -- Kentucky -- to join the Confederate army. I have not $20.000, have never held a civil office, did not leave the United States service, was only a Colonel in the Confederate army and Know of no clause except the above stated to exclude me from the amnesty. I was an aid-de-camp of Pres^t Davis and captured with him, as you were aware before granting my release.

I am not unmindful of the obligations, I have incurred in renewing my oath of allegiance to the United States, I
I may refer to the Hon Attorney General, as to the value to he attached to my word.
