D^r Sir I wish a Commission as a "Notary Public" for the Counties of Knox, Clay, Laurel, Whitley, and Harlan, I have been and am now engaged in the preparation & prosecution of a great many Pension & Bounty^s &c &c applications. very frequently I am caued a good deal of trouble in getting the proper Office, to swear the parties and take proof before, as a Notary myself I could save the trouble complained of. There is not a Notary in this Knox County " and I think it doubtfull whether there is one in any of the other Counties above named, for my loyalty, & business qualifications, I would refer you to Genl John M. Harlan & Col James H Garrard of Frankfort.
