Dear Sir,

The letter dated Jany. 14^th, addressed by the Asst. Secty. of State, Jas. W. Tate, to Hardin P. Bostick, enclosing to him a commission as commissioner of Deeds for Kentucky, to reside in ths city, was duly recieved. Soon after its receipt and before he took the oath of office as required by law, Mr. Bostick was taken sick and died on the 23^rd of last month. His commission is herewith returned.

I now respectfully apply for the same appointment and if appointed will fill the duties of the office to the best of my ability. I refer you to the statements below, of Ex-Gov. Neil S. Brown and J. T. Dunlap Comptroller of Tenn.
