Dear Sir

At the request of Mrs. Alexander the mother of Hiram Alexander who is now serving his time in the Penitentiary of this state under a sentence for cutting with intent to Kill a German named Overhouse I write this to inform you that s^d Overhouse was well in body when I last heard of him and had started with muchproprietyIpresume towards the scene of War? as a soldier to help Abraham stop balls from Davis's battery. Mr. McSlaughlin (who writes you a letter) knows more about the merits of the case I presume than I do, as he knows him well, and arrested him, I may be permitted to hope that if Executive Clemency is exercised in behalf of Alexander he will not
of necessity feel bound to follow the example of the German and determine to fight facing the same
