To His Excellency, Beriah MaGoffin, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky —

Your Petitioner, John Murphy, would respectfully state, That at the March Term 1860, of the Nicholas Circuit Court, your Petitioner was — fined Sixty dollars under an Indictment, for Keeping a Tippling House, and the proof to establish the charge was the testimony of a single witness, that he had bought & drank liquor in your Petitioner's store, on several occasions — and that witness was an enemy of your Petitioner, as stated in his original petition more than a year ago.

Your Excellency respited said Judgement for 12 months excepting the costs and fees, which have been paid — and your Petitioner again respectfully asks your Excellency to remit the balance of the fine unpaid which, is Forty dollars, as the Respite has expired — He refers to his original Petition and the list of signers, and will take it as a great favour, being nothing more than justice to himself, if your Excellency will remit the same.
