My friend Jeff. Brown is in trouble because of his good nature — He became the surety to the state for the appearance of a bad man, but I have no doubt he did it from the best & kindest motives — I would not like to see a good man and a gentleman suffer & would therefore be glad if you could find it consistent with your duty to release him —
