Dear Govener,

Enclosed I send you a petition to remit a fine, for a poor fellow named Brownfield, He is poore & has been laid up with sickness, for nearly a year, & the payment of this fine will be exceedingly onerous to him, these distressing times

You respited my Good friend Patrick O'Keefes fine before the May [...] Eight months; the probabilities are that he will be entirely unable to pay the fine at the expiration of the respite, Pat is a good fellow, honest & industrious
& has no disposition to violate any law, & without he is as poor, as "Job's turkey" was said to be — & I do hope, if not inconsistent with your views of propriety, you will remit his fine entirely, With sentiments of the hightest esteem, I am Dear Govr
