Dear sir Some time since I sent you a petition together with the letter of the Judge of our circuit and the officers of our court praying you to to commute the sentence of the Slave west who was tried at the last June term of our court and sentenced to be hung for the murder of Stevens the circumstances under which the murder was committed caused the ~~court~~ Judge and many other citizens of theis County to write and Petition you to Commute the sentence of the law in his case, The time of his Execution is drawing nigh ">6^th of sept, and I have not heard from you on said Petition, I know that the condition of our national and state at this time is all obsorbing in its character and I know that your position require much or all of your time in active mental and Physical action, and for that reason Excuse me for directing your attention to the case of west
