My Dear Sir,

Your kind letter I rec'd two days ago, and immediately calld on several artists and we have as fine engravers as the world can produce. I have examined Genl. W^m H. Harrisons Medal presented by Congress cost $1500 his face on it -- with the Act. proposed by Congress on Parchment. I have seen schiller, Capt. Schmidt and D^r Usher Parsons of Providence Rhode Island presented to him by the Legislature cost only 180$ it was beautiful, device an "Anchor". He is the only surviving offficer of the Lawrence, flag ship. His name on the sunken furrow surrounding the Medal prevents the letters becoming defaced by friction. hole in it for a ribbon or chain. Others carried in a box &^c &^c I have very little taste in matters of the kind. I would ^prefer^ one with my face on it, but perhaps it would cost too much money. I would prefer yr. taste and Judgement.

I call'd on Kenzie, clark, the finest Engraver I ever saw. M^r Lamphear is superior and politely should the many Medals, of Copper, Bronze, Steel &^c Clark finished two recently one for Gen^l Grant and one for Capt Schmidt.

N^o 1 Plate gold 22 Carrott will cost $60.
N^o 2 will cost $50. engraved letters will cost 3 cents. Devices and Inscriptions depending what it is &^c I cannot call to mind the name of the House of N. York, which made D^r Usher Parsons. The old Gent-man near 80 wears it on his vest watch Pocket to exihibit it at any public demonstration as he did at Put-in-Bay Sep^r 10 1858. At Cleveland Sept^r 10^th 1860. Yankee like, the meanest people of creation, perhaps England excepted! I presume M^r Artus has no little taste in the line of Medals. There is an old English retired Officer of this City has considerable taste in that line full of Arristocratic notions. I will call and see him and if I learn any thing I will write you immediately. I have read with no little interest the speech recently made by your townsman Wadsworth, the kind of speech, made in he proper place to meet the Ultra views of all cursed Abolitionists & traitors.
