Maysville Ky: Jany 9^th 1863.
To his Excellency
James F. Robinson,

We wish to represent to you, that M^r Erastus Lambden of our City was fined $50. for suffering a game of ~~ucre~~ ^seven up^ to be played at his house between M^rNewelland M^r Haughey for a quarter of a dollar.

M^r Lambden keeps a saloon in our Town and Haughey came in for a drink proposing that he could win his quarter at the first game -- M^r Lambden did not accept the proposition, but, M^r Newall played and won! Haughey became angry and said that he would have Lambden fined to the extent of the law, and procurred a warrant from our Mayor, who fined him $50. Haughey proposed that if Lambden would pay him $50. that he would have the prosecution dismissed. Lambden replevied the fine and a day or two since paid it. We think
that he should be releived of it, and ask your Excellency to have it remitted.

Unquestionably, from information given you, it seems to be malice on the part of Haughey to have M^r Lambden fined. M^r Lambden has paid the debt, yet, we think that it is a great imposition, and therefore make this appeal to his behalf.

Accompanying this petition is the Affidavit of M^r Lambden as well as that of M^r Newell.
