To his Excellency the Governor of the Commonwealth of Ky. The undersigned petitioners would respectfully represent to your excellency that Sarah James a widow of this County was fined $20 for retailing whisky ^Before Isaac Burton Justice^ Now we petition your Excellency to remit said fine for these reasons to wit) First Mrs James is a widow with a Large family to raise and suport and [...] She had her house burned down by accident and burned all she had up in it; and by that means she had to resort to something to try support and feed her Little helpless children with bread She sold a Little whisky but at all times she had the whisky taken a way from her premises the Lady is quite Kneedy of all of her Little means to keep her Little children in bread as many families in this County with a man at the head of them will have a hard time. to obtain bread for them; Now we think the Lady Kneeds your clemency, And we trust your Kind heart will give her relief and remit said fine and for such relief we shall ever pray.

Dr sir you will find enclosed a peititon signed by many good respectable citizens of this county asking you to remit a fine for a poor woman and do declare that she is in a helpless condition and I fear that her infants will suffer for bread this season, and I am clarely of the opinion that her case Kneeds your clemency which I hope she will Get
