Dear Sir

I write by the same mail which conveys this a letter, one to Gov. Robinson in reference to a fine imposed upon a gentleman by the name of John Elliott of Bracken County — He was fined for giving a negro man a "horn" of Whiskey at an oyster supper given by his (the negro,^s) young master & others, and in the presence of his young master —

The fine was for procured
by an enemy of Elliott,^s & not by the owner of the slave —

M^r Elliott is a Hotel Keeper & a clever gentleman, & I think with others that the fine should be remitted under the peculiar circumstances — Upon such an occasion as that, in the presence of the negro,^s Master, who one would dream of being made responsible for giving him a dram under the circumstances,

Please call the Governors ~~ear~~ attention to this matter at ~~your~~ his earliest leisure
& if remitted enclose the evidence to me —
