Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your petitioner John H Kennedy would respectfully represent that at the August Term of the Garrard Circuit Court1863 an indictment was found against him by the Grand Jury of said County for Keeping a Tippling house, upon the evidence of Mr. Dollens who stated before the Jury that he went to the store house of said Kennedy and purchased from John F Cooke who was acting temporarily as a clerk of said Kennedy and purchased a pint of whiskey Garrard Circuit Court 1863ofs^d~~Cake~~ or about that quantity of said Cooke and upon that evidence the indictment was fined — He (Kennedy) upon learning the fact came forward and confessed judgment in the sum of $20. with costs. — Your petitioner states that he is a merchant and has license to sell spirits ~~by the q~~ in quantities not less than a quart — that this sale by Cooke to Dollens was made in his absence and without his knowledge or consint and contrary to his practice. He therefore reqspectfully requests your excellency to remit said fine except the legal costs & fees.
