I wish to ask a fiew questions of you as it has been the great point of argument for the Officers, whether we will be held in the service three years from the date of last muster or not. I enlisted in this Company the 20^th of Sept 1861 and have served as an enlisted man eversince up to the 14^th of last June when I was commishioned by you as 1^st Lt C^o (I") 1st Ky. cav, I have never been mustered yet as Lt, and if that be the Order I had rather abandon my pos as Lt than to be mustered, if there is any such Order I wish to know the date of it, I onely enlisted for three years
and when the Reg^t is mustered out I wish to be too as I ~~[...]~~have not been mustered (if that be the order) I will not be I had rather doe without my Lt wages and be mustered out with the Regt as an enlisted man.

Desires to know when his Reg't will be mustered out, Says he was mustered in as private 20^th Sept/61 and served as such up to 14^th June 1864. when he rec^d comⁿ as 1^st Lt. Co. "I." 1^st Ky. Cav, Has never been must^d on his comⁿ If he will not be must^d out at the same time of his reg't — if he is must^d on his Comⁿ he would prefer not being must^d on it — and being must^d out with Reg't as a private.
