Father of Benjamin Dudley Jr., William Dudley, and Mary Dudley. Graduate of Princeton College in 1842. Attorney in Fayette County from c1844 to 1860. President of the Louisville and Lexington Railway Company in 1850. Commissioner to Washington D.C. with Francis K. Hunt in 1861. Appointed quartermaster general of Kentucky on October 3, 1861. Secretary of the board of trustees of Transylvania University in 1865.
