Attended Richland Academy in Mason County, Kentucky. Farmer in Lewis County in 1850. Read law with Harrison Taylor in Maysville. Admitted to the bar in Maysville in September 1858. Mayor of Maysville from 1861 to 1864. Deputy Provost Marshal of the Ninth Congressional District of Kentucky. Commissioner of the Board of Enrollment in Mayesville and Greenup County, Kentucky, in 1865. Member of the Presbyterian Church.
