Henderson County, Kentucky, county judge and soldier. Indiana native. Son of William Trafton and America Butler Trafton. Married Helen Gibbs Trafton in Henderson County on November 25, 1865. Attended Wabash College c.1853 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. County judge in Henderson County in 1860. County judge in Henderson County in 1861. Owned two enslaved persons in Henderson County in 1860. Served in the 10th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (C.S.A.) as a private, captain, and assistant quartermaster from August 23, 1862, to his surrender on May 12, 1865. Captured as a prisoner of war at Gallion, Ohio, on July 21, 1863, and sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, on August 1, 1863, and to Fort Delaware, Delaware, on March 25, 1864. Signed a loyalty oath to the U. S. government on May 25, 1865.
