Louisville, Kentucky, carpenter and soldier. Kentucky native. Son of Joseph Watkins and Virginia Watkins. Married to Elizabeth York Watkins in Jefferson County on May 20, 1856. Father of Laura Watkins and John Watkins. Farmer in Bourbon County, Kentucky, in 1850. Carpenter in Louisville in 1860. Employed Peter Eickerman and Andrew Stickler as apprentice painters in Louisville, Kentucky in 1860. Served in the 34th Kentucky Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as captain and major from February 25, 1862, to June 24, 1865.
