Lyon County, Kentucky, minister and soldier. Fayette County, Kentucky, native. Married to Mary Elizabeth Abernathy Abernathy in Christian County, Kentucky, on May 6, 1852. Father of Ashley W. Abernathy, Thomas Lewis Abernathy, James Luther Abernathy, Mollie Abernathy, and Emma Abernathy. Methodist minister in Lyon County in 1860. Resident of Jefferson County, Kentucky, in 1862. Served in the 80th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a sergeant and first lieutenant from August 25, 1862, to March 8, 1864.
