Hopkins County, Kentucky, wagoner and soldier. Kentucky native. Son of Toliver McGary and Varinda Young McGary. Student in Hopkins County, Kentucky, in 1850. Wagoner in Hopkins County in 1860. Served in the 3rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (C.S.A.) as private and teamster from August 19, 1861 to 1864.
