Gov Thos. E Bramlette

Your Petitioner Henry Kearns desires to present to your excellency that on the 25^th of June 1863 he was electionerring for ~~for~~ Thos E Bramlette & while so engaged was caled a damned abolitionest & a damned liar by a man named Jas Shannon, said Shannon said he could & would whip your petitioner, whereupon your petitioner struck him & gave him a good thrashing, for which I was fined by Judge Goodloe of the city court of Lexington $60 & cost, your ~~petioner~~ petitioner states that he has paid the cost but feels unable to pay the fine & asks that your excellency remit the said fine, for the reason that your petitioner feels that in doing as he did, he only did what any other citizen would have done under similar circumstances, that is being insulted on acct of his Political Preferences, & for your excellency & as in duty bound your petitioner will ever pray
