Your letter of the 14^th instant, addressed to His Excellency the Governor in relation to your military history, and qualifications for a field position, has been refered by him to me for reply.

The Governor makes no appointments in old organizations, except in the case of a Colonelcy of a regiment, without the recommendation of the commanding officer

There are no new organizations now being raised to which a Colonel has not been appointed, therefore to get an appointment in any of the regiments now in the field you must secure the recommendation of the officer commanding the regiment in which you desire appointment.
