Maysville, Kentucky, apprentice tinner and soldier. Kentucky native. Apprentice tinner in Maysville in 1860. Served in the 10th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as commissary sergeant from September 9, 1862, to September 17, 1863. Served in the 45th Kentucky Volunteer Mounted Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a private and second lieutenant from February 6, 1864, to February 14, 1865.
