Established by the Provisional Congress of the Confederate States in February 1861. Attorneys General: Judah P. Benjamin (February -September 1861), Thomas Bragg (November 1861 - March 1862), Thomas Watts (March 1862-October 1863), Wade Keyes, interim (October 1863 - January 1864), George Davis (January 1864 - April 1865).
